Description
‘The tennis player’, oil on canvas by Jan van Diemen (1954).
Craftsmanship
Jan van Diemen was born in Amsterdam in 1954 and studied MO-B Drawing from 1973 to 1978. His love for sports emerges clearly in his work where he manages to capture the dynamics of several types of sports in a wide range of colors. Thanks to his outspoken visual language, the energetic lines and colors intensify the action in the painting. Jan van Diemen was inspired by the expressionism of Kees van Bohemen (1928-1985), Pieter Defesche (1921-1998) and Karel Appel (1921-2006).
